Turn Compassion Into Action: Serve with Wrapped in Love Diaper Bank
Written by Sara Reveile
Are you interested in making a meaningful impact in Yavapai County? I encourage you to consider applying to serve as an AmeriCorps VISTA and spend a year supporting initiatives like Wrapped in Love Diaper Bank in Prescott, Arizona. Visit Arizona Serve Service Opportunities to learn more.
Wrapped in Love fulfills orders for a wide range of community partners, including community health centers, homeless shelters, and family resource centers. Their mission aligns closely with what we strive for at AmeriCorps and Arizona Serve: addressing essential needs to alleviate poverty. For many families, access to a reliable supply of diapers is a critical yet often unaffordable necessity.
I recently visited a Wrapped in Love Diaper Bank packing event held at Prescott United Methodist Church. As the new Arizona Serve Program Manager in Prescott, I wanted to better understand the impact of this incredible partner and witness firsthand what drives its success.
Leading the event were Executive Director Lori Deutsch and AmeriCorps State member Barbara White. Following the conclusion of Sunday services, members of the congregation gathered in the church hall to give back to their community. Volunteers worked together to package diapers into distributable bundles and wrote personalized notes of encouragement to include in each pack.
I learned that this event marked the final step of a highly successful diaper drive organized by the church. In total, the drive collected an impressive 6,100 diapers, period products, and incontinence supplies. What I found especially impressive was that the church not only gathered the donations—they helped wrap them too.
Lori shared that this was the largest single diaper drive donation Wrapped in Love Diaper Bank has received to date. The significance of this contribution is amplified by the scale of the organization’s reach—serving all of Yavapai County, an area spanning roughly 8,000 square miles, comparable in size to the state of Massachusetts.
When asked what advice Barbara would offer to a new AmeriCorps VISTA member serving with Wrapped in Love, she emphasized the importance of actively engaging in volunteer opportunities with local organizations. After attending this event, it is evident that Wrapped in Love’s success is rooted in its deep community connections and the ongoing support of partners like Prescott United Methodist Church.
Lori’s advice to future AmeriCorps members is to bring compassion to the forefront of everything you do. Through providing diapers, incontinence, and menstrual products, it is their goal to promote the health and dignity of the people they serve.
