Claire Louge - AmeriCorps Alum Story

Before serving in AmeriCorps, I was working retail, selling tents at The North Face in metro Detroit. It was 2007, and the economy in Detroit was what you’d imagine. I always had the desire to pursue public service, to serve my community and my country, and AmeriCorps VISTA gave me the opportunity to do that. I went on to get a graduate degree in public administration, and to work in Massachusetts state government, eventually in a leadership role. Now I’m working for The Pew Charitable Trusts in Washington, DC, and helping governments use evidence-based approaches to inform public policy. My AmeriCorps experience taught me that the solutions to complex social problems can be found within a community and its people. That spirit of civics has informed everything I’ve done since.
